Was it just me or did other her Modi say that upto now OCI holders had to report to the local Police on a regular basis and that he's changing the validity of OCI from 15 years to lifetime.

I'm not aware of any such restriction that exists on the current OCI, or did he mean to say PIO not OCI.

SS,
I saw the same in CNN IBN (an Indian news channel) today morning (16th). It came written down as :
:Validity of OCI changed from 15 years to lifetime "
It may be an error with some govt. official goofing up. It should have been the PIO.

Anyways, these guys are having the time of their lives at our expense.

I was at PM Modi's meeting in TO yesterday night. Here is the summary I understood

PIO and OCI are merged
New PIO's will no longer be issued
existing PIO's are deemed as OCI's .
All OCI's are valid for lifetime of passport holder
by the same extension existing PIO's are valid as OCI's for lifetime

( yes he did say OCI's reported until now to police but it meant PIO holders. He cannot be into that level of detail. so understand the gist of it. Meaning PIO's no longer need to report to police to stay for longer periods)

is it any changes on renew on OCI sticker on New passport?

Rules says:

Kids upto 2o years - needs to go for new OCI sticker in new passport.
Adults - 50 years and above again needs to go for one more time for OCI renewal.

These rules stay untouched...for now.

The babus have made our lives miserable. Nobody knows if PIO card is valid for lifetime anymore.

http://www.cgihouston.org/notice/display/131

"2. Subsequently, the Government of India has notified on 09 January 2015 that all the existing Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) card holders registered as such under new PIO Card scheme 2002, shall be deemed to be Overseas Citizens of India Cardholders (Merger of PIO & OCI Schemes).

3. In view of the above, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has communicated that all existing valid PIO cardholders (valid as on 30 September 2014, the date of notification of lifelong validity for a PIO card) are expected to apply for an OCI card in lieu of PIO card before 17 June 2015.

5. Interim travel to India until the issue of OCI card to existing valid PIO cardholders:

Until applicants are in receipt of an OCI card issued in lieu of PIO card, they could travel to India with their valid foreign passport, valid PIO card and CKGS receipt as proof of having applied for an OCI Registration document in lieu of PIO card."

Question arises now is what happens if a PIO card holder who is not following current events travels to India after June 17, 2015 without applying for an OCI card? Will they be denied entry to India and sent back even though they are "deemed to be OCI"?
