I wish to enquire how is stay out of Canada for work related to a Canadian company treated for citizenship purposes.
I had come to Canada in August 2000 and was employed by a locally incorporated company from Jan 2001 to Jan 2002. While on this assignment, I was required to go out of Canada a number of times for short visits. During this period, I was paid a monthly salary in Canada on which I paid all taxes. Since Jan 2002 I have been in Canada on different jobs which did not require me to travel atall.
I wish to know whether or not my intermittant stay out of Canada for work related to a Canadian Company's assignment will be treated as stay in Canada for application for citizenship in August/Sept this year.

I didn't actually work outside of Canada but travelled back and forth between here and U.S. quite a few times owing to family in the U.S.
Called up the immigration hotline to enquire whether those days would be counted for the Citizenship. The rep. was pretty clear in his answer. Only days in which I was physically present in Canada would be counted in favor of a citizenship application.
Going by that, maybe yoru time out of Canada may not accrue. I'm sure you'd want to confirm by calling immigration or consulting a lawyer.

Are you there?
I have citizenship forms with me and they have clearly written in the column - days absent from Canada (including trips to USA).
So you have to show those trips.

Not showing that time off on the application amounts to lying on the application.
In whatever scenario, not a good idea. It can come back to haunt you.

Guys....your job within canada or outside canada has got NOTHING TO DO with your citizenship application.
You can qualify to apply for citizenship if you have stayed in canada as a canadian landed resident(visitors/student visa status not counted) for the days equalling to at least 3yrs.
During these 3 yrs, you may have worked as a president of a company or sat home for 1 yr unemployed......Immigration dept. does not care. You should not have any police records for anti-social activities.
With regards to visits to USA, if you have flown, the you should list those days as absence from Canada. If you have driven, I don't think that can be tracked.
My question is - if you are working for a Canadian company and you have to go out for office work - will those days be counted as stay in Canada or not?
If not, does it mean that a guy who is looking after development/implementation of new software for international clients and have to remain out of country for say about 4 months a year WILL NEVER BECOME ENTITLED FOR CITIZENSHIP????
