In This budget total 150Cr is allocated for Women safety to be spent in all cities and public transports in India in contrary to giving 200Cr. to one statue to be placed in one isolated island. Then there will be recurring grant for maintenance of statue and surroundings. There will be Statue maintenance department with full fledged staff consuming tax payers money year after year. What a lack of vision. Nothing new though .

& what makes you think that, this statue of unity will not generate any revenue..
Alotting 200 cr. from the budget for the Sardar statue is not good politics. Gujarat should have paid the full amount.
That is my take.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
While they are busy building statues and bullet trains, market and credit agencies are not quite happy:

It's not the question of 'damn if you do, and damn if you don't', just a matter of priorities. When you come to power on the basis of big promises, you just can't excuse yourself with 'give us more time'. Easy to criticize Kejriwal for not sticking to his promises, and then say we are different. I am sure they foresaw forming the Government and worked on the priorities beforehand. So, BJP had an ample time.
Sanitation, healthcare, education, water, policing and judiciary, Electricity, and water should be the topmost priority for every Government and their respective budgets. Not the Statues and the facilities that only the elites would use. You know how many schools you can fund with 200 crores? How many free recreational facilities (swimming pools, playgrounds, libraries) they could come up with 200 crores? Or, how many free public washrooms they could build with this money? That's the exact premise that Kejriwal was talking about until he was declared senile.
Then, what's the difference between the ones not in power anymore and the ones that are? How do they separate themselves from Mayawati's status spree campaign that was lambasted aggressively?
'Nough!

I'm really disappointed in the budget too. It hasn't been that long since India has had independence, only about 6 decades during which a multitude of incredibly complex problems have accumulated in the country. The Modi govt. had ONE FULL MONTH to solve everything with this budget. Its shameful that they haven't been able to address every gap in ONE WHOLE MONTH. 30 > 6, how can they not solve only 6 decades of problems in 30 FULL days!!
They should've followed Kejriwal's example who completely changed the face of Delhi in a very short duration and then resigned when there was nothing more left to do. There is no corruption in Delhi anymore and there never will be now, thanks to his lasting legacy. In fact, two weeks into his CM tenure, Bolllywood was seriously considering renaming the movie "Delhi ka thug" to "Delhi ka sant", because there are no thugs in Delhi now. Everybody in Delhi loved the new "heaven on earth" they were living in and would've voted AAP back into power right away, if not for corrupt capitalists like Ambani, Adani et. al., who teamed up with Dr. Evil to release something into the air on election day that forced Delhites to vote for BJP. And so, despite all his great work and amazing accomplishments, AAP didn't even win a single seat there.
Shame on you, BJP!

Are you there?
This(statue building) may look silly to many people now, but it will make an impact in the long run. This is a serious attempt at changing identity of India(from Nehruvian image) without rocking the boat too much. US and other countries are all about national symbols, this is how they build patriotism and strong identities.
India needs a serious makeover in how she draws inspiration from her independence from imperialism. Sardar Patel and Bose make for excellent symbols. Besides these are also symbols of Congress from its pedigreed past, so it is inclusive.
The cost is a definitely a concern, needs to be further investigated. Why is it so expensive?
Bullet trains are the model for future. A sample needs to built for it to take hold on a mass scale. Emphasis should be on technology transfer(which is what will happen).
I am curious about FDI in railways. This side of Modi looks very scary to me and one I have always been sceptical about. I hope these are not sold away(often for pennies on the dollar) to MNC's and corporates. Local or global.
I appreciate the solid resolve of all the anti-corruption crusaders in not letting the issue wither away. However I'd give Modi more time, about half a term, just to undo at surface level of all the muck accumulated in the past.
If you are talking about making a bad start, then it is a valid position to hold, however it would be silly to expect all problems of India disappear instantly at the flick of a switch.
