Hi,
I was considering getting an OCI card instead of a 5year Vistor Visa:
The major question, is that someone mentioned to me that one has to disclose a large amount of personal information, regarding bank accounts, holdings in both in India and Canada. Is that true? . . .I don't see that on the Online form . . .is that something the Indian consulate can request after?
Also is there a faster way to obtain the card? I live in Toronto where there is an Embassy. As per website it takes 30 days.
Thanks in Advance.
You have to fill up only the information asked in the form and furnish the documents as mentioned in the website.
If they are able to do it one month, that would be pretty quick considering that forms are sent by consulate to "sarkari" office in India for processing.

No need to give all that info , just what's asked on the forms.
My timeline from last year , if it helps . got it in about 2 months , so don't go by the 30 days they mention.
Expect about 60 days , right from start to finish.
My advice to you is begin the process ASAP and get it over with once and for all, no headaches and no worries later on . Lifetime , multi entry visa to India and can stay in India for as long as you want. No need to register at police station etc and all other nonsense like with PIO , if you stay for more than 6 months.

Went and collected them on the same day , as I was in that area . everything was OK ..the lifetime U-Visa sticker on my Canadian PP and the OCI booklet
Surprisingly the process was smooth and transparent, and within the timeline. Gotta give credit , where credit is due , India seems to be improving in this regard.
Except for the red tape like making 4 trips to get my OCI , everything else was normal.
