Hello All
I am out to buy a used vehicle
$11,000 is my budget
After talking to few people, finally decided on 4 cars to go with.
Toyota Corolla, Camry, Honda Civic and Toyota Yaris
I want to buy car for commuting to work which would be appx 30kms per way
Just 2 people in family including myself.
Need your opinion on which one should i go with .
Thank You
P.S - need to buy car within a week or two.
I like camry very much 2007 and newer model, but its going out of my budget, i saw few ads on autotrader and kijiji/craigslist, appx 85000-90000 kms for 12.5-13K.
I would only like Automatic Transmission.
Have taken out couple of insurance quotes
2007 models, 80K kms, Automatic Transmission.
Civic - $307/month
Corolla - $290/month
Camry - $275/month
I will rule out Yaris. Its not comparable to other cars you mentioned. Since you decide on Honda and Toyota, You should think of Civic vs Corolla or Accord vs Camry. For family of 2, Civic/Corolla should be enough. But you may feel it too small when you family grows. Canada is a Civic nation so resale is easy. If you are planning to change your car when family grows, Go for Civic/Corolla. It will save you on mileage.
Corolla . Try to get a low mileage vehicle preferably run by a senior .

All the cars you mentioned have a good reputation, earned mainly through their sturdiness during the 80s and the 90s. The question is are they still good enough.
I have had a bad experience with a 2006 corolla and eventually ended up trading it in for a new mazda. A single experience should not be the basis for any conclusion, but the spate of recalls in the last few years does suggest that toyotas aren't what they used to be. In the list of cars you mentioned, I would go for a civic. If you are open to adding more models onto the list, I would recommend these underrated cars:
Mazda3
and
Hyundai Sonata/Elantra.
Thank You guys for your reply
Sorry for my late reply as well, due to some urgency i was out of country and wasn't able to check updates.
Anyways, came back and tried calling few dealers yesterday.
$10-11K civics 80K kms 2007 -
$10-11K corolla 80K kms 2007 -
Almost everyone i called yesterday told me there is some sort of accident, damage or claim on the vehicle and hence this price.
I don't know nothing about cars. I know before buying a used car, i will have to check car proof and car fax, but someone told me that dealer showed him carproof and it was clean but afterwards he came to know that there was claim of $6300 on that vehicle.
Anyways i am not sure how should i approach. If i go to toyota dealers, the chepest toyota corolla i found was $12K , 2007, 89K kms. It was toyota certified so in one way its good for me, atleast i am getting 1 yr of warranty on it.
For civic $12K, 2007, 86K kms, certified by honda dealer.
I saw one camry yesterday, it was with roadside dealer (YORKTOWN near keele and finch), its around $13K, 2007, 90K kms. He told me there is no accident, damage or claim on it. How do i make sure, they also showed me car proof.
I asked them to show it to my mechanic, they declined it.
Can anyone tell me if you have had experienced with NEXCAR (keele and finch) and YORKTOWN (keele and finch) and also AUTOTECH EMPORIUM (1694 Dundas St E, Mississauga, ON L4X 1L7)
Also if anyone knows good trusted dealers then i would appreciate if you could recommend me, also if any of you or your friends wants to sell 2007 or newer corolla, camry or civic please let me know
Thank You All
I think some one has posted a sticky link on how to buy a used car in the driving section .. Please go through that excellent thread .
I would suggest you to stay away from dealers ... Check Kijiji & Craigslist .... Ask for a couple of qs on the phone like ... is the mileage original and has the car been in an accident ....
When I was searching for a Corolla last year , I experienced that low mileage cars sold quickly ...
Once you have ascertained that the mileage is low and the car has not been in any accident ..... book an appointment to see the car .... if it looks / drives OK .... take the car to a mechanic who can do an inspection for 50 bucks ....
Try to find out the history of the car . If the owner is a senior ( who has held the car for some time ) who either cannot drive due to some reasons or has passed away and some relative wishes to sell the car ..... there are good chances that the car would be good .....
For an original low mileage vehicle in good condition and clean title , do not hesitate to pay a premium of $1 - 2K ..
I missed a 2004 Corolla last year which had not touched 50K .. The original owner was an old lady who had passed away and her daughter was selling the vehicle .
