This is another 1/2 baked idea that Immigrants have (incl. me and this was one of the reasons that I immigrated).
Natives start work at 16 and they work their a&& off and contribute to CPP, RRSP, RESP, TFSA, mortgage, wise investments and then enjoy life at their prime (may be 60 to 75). Then from 75, they lay in a nursing home expecting death at 100 or so.
You canot come at 45 years of age and then imagine that the govt. will give you gold and silver to live on after 60 or 65 years of age.
The only option is the CPP which gives you a max. of 25 % of your income for a max. of 42000 $ taxable income (assuming that you work from 18- 65 for atleast 42K per annum). Old age pension is like a pie cut into 40 pieces. If you live for 10 years in Canada (before age 65) then you get 10/40 of the old age pension. Then you are on your own for the rest. Medicines / healthcare is free but you need to pay for your own rent.
However, you have food banks to give you some food for 1/4 th of your tummy needs.
It is a harsh world out here similar to your weather.
Now that you know the reality, Please do come to our great land.
Peace by TK

Thanks TK. If the immigration guys read your posts, they are going to sue you for inviting people left, right and centre to the great, unknown, mysterious, ugly, wonderful and illusionary land of Canada.

In anycase, I guess we are all aware that what you save is what you get. All over the world, there is the habit of forced savings by governments - which are translated into old age benefits - including free health, free schools, clean good streets, a police force that atleast works, transportation etc.

Does your own country give you that? They take almost 40% of your tax and give you NOTHING back. By the time they pass a resolution to build 10 flyovers - the city already needs 100. By the time they build it, the traffic jams are 3-4hrs long. There is no water even in the main cities. Electricity is erratic. Healthcare is UHH. There is no public healthcare, it is all privatised. Getting your child into a good school wipes out a major chunk of your savings. Inflation is like a high speed horse.

Every place has its plus and minus. I think people have devised a "beat the bad guy" to release all pent up stress and frustration.

Oops.......I never realised.....this sounds like an I love Canada post from me, and I haven't even seen it. I guess you must be right somewhere - pour on the negative and people will be attracted to it:)

My experience, people were warning me of Canada, but i never trusted them, the feeling of how is it possible, the ads/news about Canada and the feedback of immigrants seemed so unreal.

My Father in India gets government pension after retirement just like people do in Canada, but some in Canada do get a forced pension as they are not able to find work, and they are the bottom of the societal pyramid.

Highway 401 is the most congested of all N American. Insurance is way expensive. Canadians are so heavily taxed that every one here is poor and only thinks of credit line. Free schooling for children's yes but it comes with a rider of exposing your lost in transition kids to elements like drugs and N American teen issues, also google performance of Toronto Public Schools to find school performance.

I am sharing with you as even i left India hating everything about it, I did not even wanted to be with another Indian,.....and when i landed in Toronto the only people i found were Indians everywhere and the same problems.

You can only immigrate if you have points (for education, experience, etc.). You cannot enter Canada just by showing funds. Funds are for your intitial settlement since you are not going to land in a job from day 1.

Let me start off with

1> Canada is the least racist of all western countries including US. Thats why this country has 30-40% visible minority.. U come to some parts of GTA u will feel like u are walking in india, NHL Ice hockey games are broadcast in punjabi , 2 broadcast tv channels (Omni 1 and Omni 2) have a significant amount of their programming in hindi..

2> The problem here is there are not many highly skilled jobs hence there is always a log of competition for those jobs and getting the job depends sometimes on other factors like , race , origin etc..

As TK said getting a good Job is the single biggest criteria for success for any new immigrant because a lot of services (healthcare , education) are covered by Tax $..

3> Succeding in canada is a hit and miss ,may be 50% of the immigrants from visible minorities end up getting good jobs in 3 years.. the rest are left on path of doom..

Our Good friend TK has probably had the worst of this country and then there are people like me who cant complain and quiet happy with their lives.

All i can say is canada does not force anyone to come , we are not a slave country.. come at ur own risk .. but u dont take risk, u dont get the reward either.

I was going through the exact same thoughts that u are going through.. gave myself 6 months to get a decent job, I took the risk and won..

U can listen to both sides but ultimately the risk is urs , the rewards and the losses are urs..
