Hi friends,
Just seeking general opinions on the stricttness of adhering to car preventive maintenance schedules recomended by the manufacturer.
To be more clear what are the types of maintenance which can be delayed or kind of pushed back and what should be attended to right at the set limits by the factory .

I have received a letter from my dealership for replacing the timing belt which is recomended to be changed after 150000 kms on the meter, the same costs around 1000 bucks.
Kindly pls share your experiences.
Thanks in advance for your valuable inputs as always.

IMO, I would adhere to manufacturer's schedule, unless there are some severe financial constraints. You do not want to get stranded on highway esp. during a snowy day or get into further expenditure just for saving "few" bucks.

Also, it depends upon how much driving do you do everyday and how good/bad driver you are.

Timing belt normally comes with water pump and both are replaced at same time, IIRC. Also, it is the labour that is more expensive, not the parts itself.
