Ur lawyer should take of setting up ur accounts and doing the paper work for electric gas and hydro..
Check with him , if he is not doing it then he will give u the details.
In general u have no choice..
Embridge provides gas,
Brampton hydro provide electricity in brampton , i presume there is missisuaga hydro
Water is provided by Peel district.
Uusally the electricty and gas are provided at market rate by embridge and Brampton hydro. the disadvantage is that the price changes every month depending on gas and electric prices in market.
The only choice u have is to sign a fixed price contract with Direct energy or any other company that does something similar, which is a binding contract for both parties for X number of years.. only way to break is by paying penaties and apply even if u decide to sell the house.
For a new home buyer signing a contract for the first 3 to 4 months is not recommended because u dont understand the full capacity of these locked plans.

When do we start the process is it before we move in or after we move.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance

Do NOT sign a fixed price contract so soon after moving.
Even in the best of times, these contracts are often not in the interest of the consumers, and particularly in these volatile times, you may be stuck with years of high rates while the market rates stay low.
The fixed rate is almost always to the benefit of the gas marketer/re-seller.
Also keep in mind that the fixed rate only applies to the gas usage.
There are several other charges that will continue to be added to your bill regardless of who the marketer is.

I just purchased Townhouse in Mississauga and moved on last week, yesterday night at around 8.45 p.m. Direct Energy agent came to my house and told me to sign a contract for 5 years with 27.9 Cent /meter cube.
I was surprise and told i don't want to do the contract as i don't know too much about this all utility company as this my first house in Canada and he said don't worry everything we will take care by us you just sign the paper as previous owner of this house was with us and ballah..ballah.....
We just moved in house on last week so i don't know too much about this all companies, in mine is showing sticker for ENBRIDGE so i am assuming this is my Gas supply company.
Direct energy offered me 5 years contract with 27.9 Cent /meter cube Do this price is good for contact? as i didn't recieved any bill from my current company yet.
Thanks all CD today i came through this Topic and i understand much better how all system works.
That's why this website helps everyone a lot.......
cheers all CD's
Congratulations on new house!
Just checked my bill and current rate is 16.21 cents/cubic meter. This rate could go upto 30 cents. But as pointed by Patrickm use the word "NO"
"NO" to fixed priced gas companies
"NO" to new energy saving water heaters
"NO" to the guys asking for your utility bills
"NO" to the guys posing as rep of Govt who will replace your water heater for free with the energy saver.
"NO" to any stranger/sales guys shows up at your doorsteps
Instruct all the senior house members not to sign any paper howsoever trivial/lucrative the contract looks.
Also if you are planning on signing to a alarm company do your homework on what all you can get in addition to basic system.
If in doubt post here and experts (not me) will share experiences.
Good luck.
