Hi All,

My maternity leave is abt to end, but i'm in a dilemma whether to go back or not. Few things that I have to consider-

1)I was getting $16 hourly, i.e. ard $2700 mth & after tax deduction I was getting ard $2200. Now if I put my baby to good daycare, their fee is ard $1000 mthly. So the thing is I’ll get $1200 after paying daycare. Is it worth????

If I put her to daycare we have to leave from home ard 7.30 (I don’t have car, so my hubby will drop us). & after work we’ll reached home ard 6.30-7.00 pm that means ard 12 hrs. That mean I’ll only get only few hours with my baby. Is it worth to sacrifice??

2)We don’t have any previous experience abt daycare, is daycare good for baby development??

Please help me taking a right decision. I know all is up to us but sometime other opinion counts.

Thanks in advance.

It totally depends on your financial situation and how important those $1200 a month are for your household finances.
BTW, if you are considering from a purely financial aspect, then you need to account for several other factors, such as higher taxes, potentially less CCTB, gas expenses, more mileage on the car, or a new car, formal attire for work, lunch outside, etc.
You should also "impute" the hrs. you will spend getting ready for work, commuting, etc.

I don't think you can leave your baby in a day care for 12 hours. Most professionally operated daycares are open from 7 am to 6 pm; however, there may be a ON law that limits the stay of the child to 9 hours max.

Well financially it's not, but right now i have a job & if i quit i have to search job later maybe after a yr & right now job market is not good but ure right we have to consider all other factors too. R u sure we have to pay higher taxes & wht abt CCTB???

That's why i'm confused. Plz tell me with other aspects which i need to consider before taking any decision.

* Consider Tax credit for day care exp
* consider, now u r getting $ 1200 but if u continue working, how much u will get eventually vs do not work at all..and how much u will get eventually...
* how imp is $ 1200 for u and how imp is career for you and how much important it is for u to bring up child yourself.
* day care has its own +, i like it for developmt bcos if we can not spend much time educating or playing with kid then day care helps, ofcourse hours are a bit too lengthy for u (also for me) ...but sometimes we have no choice or if u can adjust timings with ur husband or ur own timings, work less than full day ...??

You will be making $32,400 a year, which means your household income will increase by that level.
Please use the following calculator to check the tax rates and CCTB brackets at your household income level to see whether there is an impact or not, and if so how much.

If I am in your situation I will proceed to daycare ,

You can try a Baby Sitter which will cost you less 500 to 600$.

If your both incomes are low you will get subsidy from Goverment.

My wife used to get same salary but she was working in IT and her Manager was flexable on timings .

But I joined my son in a professional day care intailly it costed me 1300 , but as age increase the amount decreses.

If he his in daycare he become active and learn how to mingle with other kids,
they will take him out for walk/park/libarray etc in summar and in winter they have some indoor activities.

In day care they provide food.only thing you need to give daipers.

Especailly in canada its tough to get the job.

So please don't think about money as of now you have only kid, when you go for second then staying in home is worth for 2 kids.

I feel kid will learn some activity in daycare, if my son is at home he always watches TV, which I won't recommend.

Some kids will enjoy in day care some are not. So it depends on your kid,

Try 1-2 months , if you feel good then continue if not leave the job and take care family.
