I have a Dodge Caravan, which I used during the days when gas costed 85 cents a litre... Thereafter, I bought a small car (dodge Neon). I retained my Dodge Caravan,
and transferred the insurance to my small car. At that time, my vehicles were insured with TD melloche monnex.
When the insurance came up for renewal, I switched companies, and went to State Farm, as their rates were considerably low. So while I took insurance for my Dodge Neon, I did not do so for my Dodge Caravan.
Since gas prices have fallen, I wanted to take insurance for my Dodge Caravan too.
My insurance broker (at state farm) says that since the dodge caravan remained uninsured for a short period, my rates would be very high. He suggested that to get a low premium rate, I could return the license plates to the MT0, and come back with the papers - so that they could insure me on the "unplated" dodge Caravan. He says that, by doing so, I would get a lower rate on my van,
My questions are:
1. What is the reason I need to cite to the MTO, to return the license plates?
2. Is it ok to say that I would not be using the van, and hence I want to return the plates?
3. Have any of my fellow desis faced a situation like this? please share your experiences with me.
4. Is there a company that would insure the van for say 1 to 3 months (during which period, I could sell the van)?
Thanks in advance for your inputs..
1. What is the reason I need to cite to the MTO, to return the license plates? No need to give a reason.

Yes

I have had a friend who has a unplated Cavalier sitting in his driveway for 2 years. When you get insurance just get fire and theft as u will not drive it.

You do not need insurance to sell the van.
