is that correct and if yes, what are the suggestions of experts.

-- Yes ! you have heard correctly. If the parents die then it is very difficult/next to impossible for any realtive or grand parents to get custody of the child if not specified in the will.

--- Make a will and specify who has the right to get custody of your child/children incase the unthinkable ever happens

We will find a way or we will make one
On a related note, I would like to know what happens if a husband dies with a lot of money in the bank and without a will in Canada. Will the amount be given to his wife? and like wise, if a husband dies with a lot of debt, will the wife be forced to pay the money back?

Hey TK I have a clear answer to your concerns. Looks like you haven't stashed away a loada' loot! LOL When you open GICs or other long term investments or for that matter a savings account, the banks ask you some info about the next of the kin or to who money goes in the event you are suddenly dead. If you specify no relative, they fill in the gap "my estate". But your estate obviously presumes there will be a will... It is good to have a will regardless how healthy you are. You never know when the Grim Reaper strikes! But then don't tell the beneficiaries too much about the cash or even about them being the beneficiaries... They just might hasten the arrival Grim Reaper! LOL
