I had some time to kill today. So did some basic search. Bombardier a Canadian company manufactures light rail systems coaches for many cities across Europe. And In Canada? I could not find any. Major cities in Europe are developing and building every year much more efficient public transport systems. I was listening to 680news a few days ago and heard Madrid, Spain and in the lest ten years build more subway tracks than the total of what it is IN TO right now. From the last two years I have been here I have heard of talks of a better public transit but no work. even in most Asian cities including Mumbai large scale work is going on to build newer transit systems. But in TO one does find any such work. Is this the typical NA arrogance that what ever we have is the best and does not need improvement? Or is it the economy which is dictating such a myopic view of the transit system.

Check out the Bombardier website and see the wonderful coaches they are building for newer transit systems in Europe. I know TTC has contracted Bombardier for new coaches but what about newer rapid transit systems?

You are absolutely right about this Iceberg - even the trains in England are Bombardier.

Why isn't the same here in Canada? Because this country and the US need a crappy public transport system in order to sell more cars from the big major car companies...

Exactly my point when I mentioned about the myopic attitude of the government. the other day I was listening to a Dalton Mcguinty interview on high gas prices. I was quite surprised to hear an alternative from him. Buy hybrids because the govt is anyway giving discounts on them!!!
