A Career in IT

Hi Everyone

I joined CD a few days back. Could anyone tell me what is the scope like in the IT field today in Canada - I aspire to do my BSc in Computer Information Systems ( Distance Learning). I have been in Canada for 4 years and have done a fulfilling Provincial Government job in Mental Health but want to seek new challenges now. I have no prior Computer education or experience but am fascinated by the IT field. How are the jobs like for entry level programmers and what salary/wage can one expect ? Is it worth doing a 4 year BSc in Computer Information Systems and then start an IT career from scratch or should I go for further studies in Mental Health. I am presently making $35000-40000 gross a year. Please do guide me as I am looking for a direction. Also, I have this dream of going back to India someday and pursue a career in IT.
