Citizenship Test and Residence Questionnaire
Hi All,
Had the test today, so for the benefit of those who will be taking the test in the near future:
- There will be 20 questions in total, make sure you read the 'A Look at Canada' book.
- There will be 2 mandatory questions which you have to get correct, most likely these will be from the Voting / Citizenship Rights sections. In case you do not answer these 2 correctly then you will have to take the test again. This can delay your application by 4-6 months.
- There will be another section where you will have to get atleast 1 correct from 3 questions.
- Out of the remaining 17, you will have to get 12 correct.
Its a very easy test, most people finished it in 10-15 mins.
I guess the processing times have speeded-up, we were informed that most of us would be back in 4-6 weeks for the Oath Ceremony.
I was given a 'Residence Questionnaire' as I have been travelling to Europe and India during the course of my work and I have 60 days to send all the additional documents.
Good luck! Bonne Chance!

Hi Arjan,
My test was in downtown Toronto....
With the Residence Questionnaire, I have to provide copies of my passport, letter from employer, income slips, income tax notice of assessment, t4s, t5s, credit card statements, bank statements, rental/lease/purchase agreements, utility bills, phone bills, etc etc...basically all documents showing my ties to Canada...

Thank you for your update. I have an important question. I am going to take Test on second week of June. I work in Detroit and my employer takes care of my expenses and everything. Almost everything. I live in Windsor and work in detroit. I dont think I have sufficient documents to prove if i get the questionnaire. Can you help me on this. Please.
Apt Lease :
I live with my friend. So i dont have it on my name but i have a sublease agreement with my friend.
Credit Card Statements:
I have two credit cards but dont use them. I prefer to use cash because i get cash from my empoyer for my trips.
Bank statement:
It has only 4-5 transaction a month. My monthly pay deposit. My car payment. My car insurance payment.
Utility Bills:
I have phone and bill. Since i live with my friends, he pays the utility. I dont.
Apart from this, I have my canadian car, Car Insurance, health card, driving license.
One more thing, I went to indian twice after i landed in 2003. Both the time i went from Detroit because my employer provided the air ticket free. I work for Airlines but i have all the invoices which shows that it is an free ticket.
It will look like i never lived in windsor but honestly i am living in windsor. How do i takcle this situation.
I would really appreciate your help on this.
Thanks.

You have the sublease agreement, phone bill, car registration, car payment, insurance, driver's licence and healthcard. You probably have notice of assessments from the years you filed taxes in Canada. That should work to your benefit.
Also, if you moved from another country to Canada, do you have documents related to those - examples - import documents for car, mover's receipt, etc.
I was and am in the same boat as both you and the original poster. I travel frequently and all the stamps on my passport show entry and exit between US (Detroit) and mostly Europe and Mexico. This is a fact of life for travelers from Windsor unless they come up with a major international airport in Windsor.
So, you both should be ok.

Hi DesiBabu,
Thanks for your reply.
Did you have a lot of stamps on your passport? Is that why they gave you the residency questionaire?

Citizenship Test and Residence Questionnaire
Hi Arjan,
Yes, I do have a lot of stamps in my passport - this is my 4th passport incidentally, but I feel the main reason for the RQ is because I have been away on business trips for 141 days in a 3 year period so my 'physical' presence does not meet the 1095 day requirement. I am now in the process of getting my docs ready...

Thanks for the reply DB,
I'm just wondering why they didn't give you the Residency Questionnaire sooner. Didn't they already know the number of days you where away before giving you the exam?

Citizenship Test and Residence Questionnaire
Hi Mani,
I have 60 days to send all docs, but I was informed that the sooner I send them the better as it may delay my processing by as much as 4 years!! All you need to take to the test are your passport(s), 2 pieces of ID i.e. driver's license, health card, your PR card, and the 'record of landing' form.
Hi Arjan,
I applied for my citizenship 2 and a half months ago so it was processed quite fast; I noticed that 5-6 people were also given the RQ at the test so perhaps its part of their procedure??
