Hey

I was reading about Good & bad about Dubai. To be honest at present
Dubai is not the place to stay. Here are reasons :

1. Housing - Its too toooo costly for person who earns less than Dh 10,000 every month. Rents & other things is not going to come down as they want people to spend money there only. Forget about buying Property. Its only for people who has Millions on Dollars.

2. Rights - Even if u stay there for any no of years, its not going to ur place. They can ask u leave this place any time. They are not giving Passport or Citizenship at all.

3. Skin color - Yes it palys major role in many jobs. If u are south asian u will always end up working under Local Arab ( who is hardly educated & exp)

4. Traffic - Its become worst in last 2-3 years & no chances of any improvement. Forget about rail & othere system. Also Toll Roads already started & its expensive.

Only advantage of Dubai is - its near to ur home country & at present Taxes are not there. But if I am not wrong, Tax will start soon. They already started Credit Bureau kind of things so next step will be Tax. I am 100% sure.

So if anybody still interested in going to Dubai, think about it. Go inly if ur salary is around Dh15,000- 20,000. Go only if u agree to work under less educated people. Go only if u want to drive daily 1.5 to 2.0 Hrs

Also go only if u have say Canadian/ US Passport

Still if any one wants more info about, let me know

1. Rent.
2. Schooling.
3. Cost of living.

For sure, Dubai is not growing like India or China but what is the reason behind this sudden (artificial) surge of prices. What is the reason behind the Government's initiative to jack-up the price.

- Is Dubai really growing or it is a big gamble the Govt. is involved ?
- If it is really growing, what really attributes to that and what is their measure to prevent their neighbors surpassing them esp., Oman ?
Love to hear from y'all.

Sorry to reply so late for the post. This is economics one on one.

We lived in Dubai when oil price was $ 20 a barrel. Today, oil price in $60 to $80 a barrel. So whatever is happening in Alberta is happening in Dubai. Too much money chasing too few goods. Prices skyrocket. So even though you have money, the quality of life is not exactly very high.

Now one may say that Dubai does not have oil. True, but the people in the region aound like Saudi, come to Dubai to spend the money as these countries have restrictions. So Dubai is booming due to oil price of $ 60 upwards.

When I lived in Dubai in $ 20 a barrel days, my company would invest in land plots. Generally, the profit margin was 100 % on sale of plot of land after 1 yr. This was in the old days when the oil was moderate. I can only imagine the return in $ 60 upwards oil.

Hi Dubaiwalla

And now Arab have back stabbed on investors by putting a restriction of so called dream PR Visa on some big investment and suddendly I heard they have amended the law saying that the PR visa is only for a certain time period..

That means suddenly they can say investors to get out of the country w/o any notice and all the money is gone like another AIG scam..and another reccession. I saw lot of Indians brought superb realestate over there but now in doldrums.

Canada is atleast secured if we lose we wont be on total loss atleast there will be some recovery ,, worst comes with whatever we have we can go home and live a modest life. not like Uganda scenario.

Other hand Canada is not less than other OED nation, like what occured in sweden can happen in Canada very easily..So I advise my desis always have plan B in place..

I tell you in short all of us becoz of some grudge we landed in Canada. But India or Asia is the only place in this world where you can live less than a dollar a day there is sustainibility over there..In Canada its no job no life..very simple. you are always at the mercy of the economic constraints and the goverment.

That is why the BRUTISH colonised INDIA/Asia first and filled their coffers and then in the end made these Canada/America to dish out whatever we have..we again felt into their trap. even upto this current reccesion is due to these whites greed and now this time full world got to know their wicked mind and finally there is geo political shift..But the whites know how to con the narrow brains of the asian. but ..Its not that easy for them this time.

They already will burnt their fingers in IRAQI/AFGAN/now PAKISTN pie and Canada will also bear the brunt. Its only now Asians help Canadians to come out of their nutshell Trade and survive instead of going into butt of Americans.

Likewise immigrants can make a difference and thus Canada will become sustainable self reliant economy with jobs and with better way of life. I mean without much stress.

The city is getting crowded, Roads are getting jammed, housing spaces are egtting costlier but still their economy is diversified and geared to get better. Also UAE (esp. Dubai) is the only place in the middle east , which is not totally dependant on oil for their economy (Sauid Arabia OTOH is fully dependant on Oil for its economy). By having a cosmoolitan place in the middle east, Many multi national companies operate from there thus being a cultural melting point in the middle east.

Well, The date stamp for that quote was 18-03-07. The world is a much different place now than it was before (Same as Sept/01). I am sure that any reasonable minded person who really knew about the recession of 08-09, would have concluded that the next hit would be Dubai. Of course, they could have toned down the pace but they did not. A person (of Architectural background) who used to get AED 5000 a month in 06/07 suddently saw his salary shoot up to 20K to 25K a month + 10K a month for housing. This can simply be not sustainable esp. since USA is in deep deep recession. Of course, the sheikh should have been content with some building and possibly looked to be a manufacturer / service industry base (since Dubai has all the infrastructure and can recruit labourers for cheap price and the Gulf is strategically located close to Europe) but he has chosen not to.
The same went for Oil. It started out in $40 and went up to $ 147. I predicted that it will fall down and yes it did. It came down to $40 before moving up again. may be if I was asked the same question in end of 08/begining of 09, I would have predicted the bust.

Peace by a PD
