Hi,
We got our Canadian PR in March 2006 so close to finishing a year now. But we actually came to Canada on Jan.1, 2005. My husband was on a work permit and I on a visitor. So we actually spent a little more than a year before we actually got our PR status. Now my question is can that year Jan 05- Mar 06 be counted towards our 3 years required for citizenship? If yes, then how can I go about the process of informing the authorities and what else needs to be done. Thanks in advance for your help.

You do not inform the authorities about this. Just fill the citizenship application form (and read the guide). It is all explained there. (cic.gc.ca).
The time you spent in Canada before you became a PR can be counted towards the citizenship (upto 1 year). This can be counted if it falls within the last 4 years, i.e. if you think you are eligible to sign the form on Jan 1 2009.
