Hello Friends,
I am (indian female) doing my Ph.D in Canada (BC) with a financial aid of
CAD 18,000/year (since October 2004) .I am going to India during December 2006 and planned to get married to the one whom i have known for 14 yrs. Also i have a plan to take him along with me to Canada after the marriage.
He was my college mate, who discontinued his B.Sc due to his family circumstances. (no college degree, just his +2) He has been a software programmer + network engineer by profession since 1997. He got a US visa rejection during 2001. I have a fin.support of CAD 18,000 / year + his financial support around CAD 10,000 + some assets etc.
a) Is this enough for him to get a dependent/visitor visa ? if he gets the visa, then he is going to live with me for another two years in Canada.
b) Does his US visa rejection would not create any probes in getting a Canadian visa ?
c) If he gets the visa, then whether he can be able to get a job in Vancouver.
He does not mind the nature of the job.
Anybody can help me by giving me some ray of hope ..Please.
If you think you could contact me by email, then drop your mails at and would be highly obliged.
Thanks much.
Regards,
~appie~
Hi Appie,
I am not expert but I recently came to canada with employment visa. So from that experience I can say that
a) your husband will have no problem in getting canadain visa and its duration is linked to your study/work permit
b)US visa rejction will not influence canadain visa
c) He can work full time in vancouver but need to apply for workpermit after he arrives in BC
be happy and enjoy your wedding
regards

Hello skyleuven,
Thanks a lot for the reply.
So, till i complete my studies, my husband can stay with me in Canada, coz i have not applied for PR etc and my status in Canada as an International Student.
Is it right ? Please correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks for the wishes.
Regards,
~appie~
Hi Appie,
Yes, Your husband can stay and work in Canada till completion of your studies. You need not to have PR for this. Study permit is enough. Only thing is he should satisy the immigration officer - I mean his intention to come and stay in canada is only temporary till you complete your studies. he will get visitor visa first and he can apply for work permit from with in canda.

10. How much money will I need during my studies in Canada?
If you will not receive funding from a Canadian educational institution or a governmental organization, you will be required to provide evidence that you or your family can readily afford the cost of an education in Canada on an ongoing basis. You must demonstrate that you will have enough money during your stay in Canada to pay for tuition fees, books, living expenses for yourself and any accompanying dependents, and return transportation for both yourself and your dependents.
According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada guidelines, you will require approximately $10 000 Canadian per year, not including tuition fees, to cover your living expenses. If your dependants are planning to accompany or join you, you will require an additional $4 000 for the first dependant, and $3 000 for each subsequent dependant, in addition to return airfare.

11. Can my spouse and child come with me to Canada, or visit me at a later date?
If you proceed to Canada alone, it is possible that your dependants will not be able to join you there. If you wish your spouse and / or child to accompany you to Canada or to join you at a later date, you must provide proof that you will be able to support them. Please see the response to Question 10 above.
Since funding provided by Canadian institutions or governmental organizations is normally sufficient for one person only, you will likely be required to provide proof of additional funding and/ or savings. Your dependants will also be required to demonstrate to a visa officer that they have sufficient ties to India to ensure their departure from Canada.
