One needs to go (physically) for the photos, there's no exception. We had a similar problem, we were out of Canada and my kids did not get the PR card (photos not correct). Please see the points

-We missed the 180 days deadline and could not come to Canada.
-Got Travel document and travelled to Canada, filled up a new application for PR card, with new photos (we travelled specially for this and left Canada, Sep 2008)
-After 8 weeks we received another letter saying we can come and collect kids PR card, physical presence needed, deadline 180 days (Dec 2008 letter came and expiry for pick up was June 2009).
-Travelled again on Travel document in April 2009 for PR cards and left Canada.

We keep travelling to Canada 2-3 times a year so this was not a issue but in your case I'll suggest don't rush for PR cards, PR cards are needed when you are living in Canada and want to travel outside. The second time when you permanent plan to (finally plan to) move to Canada, apply for Travel document and enter Canada. Then once in country apply for PR card. PR card can be applied when you finally relocate, what's the rush and unnecessary travels. You'll just need Travel document for your son to renter Canada.

Hope it helps.

Thank you very much Jonav. So I understand that there is no rush for us to come to Canada just for my son's PR card. But my son must be there physically for the photo session and we can't just send the recent photos in post. Please correct me if I am wrong.

One more thing, is 180 days time limit from the date of first landing or from the date the letter was issued. Please clarify this.

Regards,
SS.

I enquired with them, they said we have to bring child personally for the photo.I asked about your case, the call centre person said to try your luck by sending your son's latest photo, the size specified on cic, and a very polite request to grant PR and that you are outside canada, send a copy of landing papers and child birth certificate. If not, you will have to bring the child for photo.

Yes, you can't send the photos by post it has to be done personally. 180 days limit is from the date of letter. In the letter they clearly say that within 180 days one has to be present at this address (Yonge Street....).

This year (April) when we were there to collect PR for kids, the CIC lady told us to pick kids in lap, she compared the photos with the kid and talked to them too. So they really see you brought your own child and not someone else’s!

SS there's no harm in trying by sending pictures via post but it’s highly unlikely they'll do it. I personally feel they should allow photos by post as it is very inconvenient and expensive to travel for this. But off some time I've been hearing this photo problem from many people especially the one with young kids.

Hi Jonav and gopal

Thank you for your replies regarding my sons PR card. I want to clarify 3 points:

I want to write a letter to CHC along with his recent photos mentioning that we are outside Canada and request to issue PR card. For this I am not sure of the address to which I need to post. Can anyone kindly tell me the address.

If they say no to photos and if he has to attend physically... then he needs a travel document to go to Canada as he donot have PR card. Both me and my wife are in the UK now and my son is in India. We had our application processed from the UK and his name was added after he was born. He had his medicals done in India and our medicals are done in the UK. Now my question is can we get a travel document from India. Is it easy or again time consuming. Can anyone tell me how is it issued and how it works.

If he has to go to Canada physically can we go AFTER that 180 days time limit with out informing them. OR should we have to inform CHC in writing that we will come later on.

Bit complicated...but your help is much apprecaited.

Regards,
SS.
