Pink Panther,
If he comes here and tries to see first hand , if he can get a good job would n't that drain his resources? is this the only solution?
I think a best way is to find is do proper research from Dubai to see if he will get a good job in Canada. Let him use the internet, mail to his civil engg. association in Canada or call them to find if this field has good jobs for immigrants. If he finds positive response from Canada, then let him come here . Also there would be a lot of civil engineers who had previously immigrated to Canada and then returned back to Dubai. He can enquire with them too.
I guess that is what "The A-Ha" people of canada would suggest.

Are the above suggestions you give exactly what you did before you decided to move to Canada? I'm sure if you did, then you wouldn't be in Canada would you, because you would have found out you would be living "hand to mouth" and would have been better off in the country you were in originally.

The truth is, you don't know unless you take that leap. Just because it didn't work out just liked you "assumed" it would for you, doesn't mean it wouldn't work out for someone else.

Join canadian forums regarding your occupation, be professional and ask good questions of the forum members. Try to build a network online with people who are already in your profession(NOT JUST DESIS), without pestering them. Look at the classifieds of canadian newspapers online. Research companies that you would like to work for and find out what they look for in their employees. Contact them via e-mail and maybe build a rapport with their HR dept.
In other words BE PROACTIVE.

Folks, above are some of the things I think could have really helped me when i first came to Canada...however 10 yrs ago the www wasnt at the stage it is now and I initially had a tough time.

If any of you think you have any other ways that will help a prospective immigrant research his/her field and focus on their goals, before they land...please add it here.

Guys, thanks a lot. I am just gathering information from those who have experienced the route regardless of their profession. If some one asked me the prospects in Dubai, well I could certainly recommend engineers but not lawyers or IT professionals. Again local experience matters a lot and so is the case in Canada I guess. However, in general I feel that it takes more than 5-6 years for people to get settled. Which is the case for a new comer to any country.

40+ Sir,

Try workopolis website for applying jobs find out the responses and take your own decision.

There are people immigrated to Canada mainly for the unpolluted atmospheric air, clean water, good roads, socializing, chilling weather, corruption free government, children education and so on and not for advancing his or her career or working in their field to make and save money.

If you are in dilemma; please collect all the possible information's related to your profession and adaptability and then take a decision with your family, relatives, and friends.

Find out what is was your primary purpose that when you submitted application by your self or through consultant to immigrate to Canada at the age of early 40s. Is it money, or career, or children education or unpolluted air? If it falls within your aspiration then take some risk in your life with your family.

40 + is a good age to take a lots of decision including immigration. Technically this is your second immigration, since you are living in Dubai. What facilities you are not getting in Dubai? I guess Citizenship or other things? If you are fond Citizenship then you no have choice. What are the influencing factors that urge you to immigrate? Once the decision is made by you make it firm and final. The damage is irreversible if your target is not achieved after your immigration. I have seen many doctors are driving taxi. All the very best for you and your family to take a decision on relocation at the age of 40+.
