Indo-Jazz Fusion Ensemble Autorickshaw and acclaimed pianist Winston Choi and violinist headline the 2006-07 Music of All Latitudes Concert Series (MOAL)
On Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 7:30pm, Indo-Jazz fusion ensemble Autorickshaw kicks off the Cultural Affairs concert series in the ARC Theatre. Tickets are $12 Adults and $10 Students/Seniors and can be purchased from the UofTtix Box Office (In-person: UTSC Room B320, online: http://www.uofttix.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK, and by telephone: 416.978.8849).
Buy tickets to both MOAL concerts and save up to 20% off the regular single ticket price. The MOAL Double Pass is $20 Adults and $16 Students/Seniors.
The goal of Music of All Latitudes (MOAL) is to offer a fusion, variety, and richness of musical invention. Past performers include the Toronto Tabla Ensemble, the Kiyoshi Nagata Ensemble, Ballet Creole, Maderaz, Ron Korb, Adonis Puentes, Tasa, the Madawaska String Quartet, GaPa, Heather Bambrick, and Adam Solomon.
About the artists: Autorickshaw's music lies on the cultural cutting edge, as contemporary jazz and funk easily rub shoulders with the classical music of India. Formed in 2003, Autorickshaw has swiftly risen to become one of the most intriguing acts on the world music and jazz landscapes, garnering a 2004 JUNO nomination for World Music Album of the Year. Autorickshaw has toured widely in Canada, including appearances at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Vancouver and Winnipeg Folk Festivals, as well a numerous appearances at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. US appearances include performances at Joe's Pub in New York City and at The Kennedy Centre in Washington DC.
"The ensemble consists of a mash-up of four of Canada's most exciting and musically interesting young musicians: vocalist Suba Sankaran, tabla player Ed Hanley, bassist Rich Brown and exotic percussionist Debashis Sinha. All four have achieved excellence on their respective instruments. When their forces are combined, the results are utterly unique and musically pioneering." [The Record] |
