Dear All

I m Sai from Mumbai. And ya u guess right, I m one of those who r in the contemplation mode for immigration to canada. I have been finding contradictory statements about life in Cananda. Hence I thought I should put in my case infront of you. Maybe you guys give me a better insight of what I can expect from canada.

To begin with I am from a Middle Class family, 26 yrs old Engineer working as a Exports Manager and pursuing Executive MBA from a reputed B' School ( I know it wont matter much ). My dad didnot get much out of life so u can understand that I have to start from scratch Mumbai or Canada.

If I think of living in Mumbai I know it will take me my whole life paying installments for a Flat ( they r damn expensive since the Financial Institutes started financing Home Loans ( Sab lobbying hai yaar)), a car and other nitty gritties. And by the time I am out of paying loans and if I have married ( so far not committed the mistake) my kids would be old enought to join a college and if u r aware education in India is a expensice deal ( Rs 30 Lacs for Doctrate, Rs 15-20 for Engg - MBA exception if u r one of the few scholars getting sponsors).

So I was thinking that if I migrate to Canada and start life from there, I understand it is difficult in the begining ( waise Mumbai is getting difficult everyday , travelling by train I have started identifying myself with cattles thats the crowd due to heavy migration into mumbai).

I would like ur advice regarding this . Hardwork is fine no- work will be difficult. I have come to the post of Manager after working as a office boy during vacations in school days. So if I have to work for some months on a lower post would not be a ego problem. Phir bhi u guys know better so kindly advice this chotta bhai ( younger brother).

Thats for today, If decided I may land up after 2 yrs.

lots of love for all,

sai.

Go back to University and get a Canadian degree once you come here.

Hi

Interesting question, and one which really you are the ONLY person who is capable of answering or has the right to answer anyway.
Looking for answers from strangers in a forum is not a wise idea.
From your post it seems that you WANT to come to Canada, and that is what really matters. As long as you want to do things in your life, you will work around obstacles to make them happen.
What worked for others may not work for you and vice versa.
Also as regards the relevance of indian education in Canada, it has the EXACT same value (except for regulated professions where one has to re-qualify) however a person has to get them evaluated from one of the many organizations validated by the government to do so. Most people unfortunately dont!!!!! Incidentally indian degrees and ones from UK are the ones which are the easiest to evaluate.
You need good advice, on how to do better here and not advice on whether to move or not!
A lot of people would tell you to get spices, dals, rice, clothes, medicines, pillowcases, curtains etc...........not many tell you to get letters of recommenations, photos of workplaces, official correspondence signed by you or case studies by you (with confidential information blackened), testimonials, awards, transcripts. Look for sage advice.
Good luck, do whats good for you!

You are young. You do not have responsibilities yet. You haven't really grown in your profession yet. Should it be necessary, if you willing to reducate yourself, you should certainly think of coming here.

But I am told, it takes upto 4 years for the immigration process.

Dear All,

Thanks for ur valuable advice. I can understand that it is necessary for me to get by qualificationgs evaluated as per the local standards of canada and also add on some more education from their university.

And dear Panduji, a degree is a degree hard earned after so if it is not valued in some foreign country that does not mean it can be used as toilet paper. U will agree that for most of the Indians higher education is a privilage, but for every Indian education is equivalent to worship so I feel we should all respect education be it Indian or Canadian. Official matters should not let us put it down. Kindly dont feel offended.

And Dear Cynic u r right it will take around 4 yrs , Infact the latest news is that they r trying to decrease the period to 2-2.5 yrs, so let me see when can I come there. Hope my parents dont think of getting me married and neither do I fall in for some girl.

And friends I do understand that we r personally responsible for our life but u know Indians they always like to take guidance from parents or elders. Thats why I am seeking ur guidance. Waise my consultant here gives a lot of guidance also , but u guys r leaving there and must have gone thru the process of settlement and hardships so I thought let me have ur frist hand experience.

Thanks once again for everything,

Love U all,

Sai.
