Masoodji,
I have recently got my canadian immigration a month back and I am working in Canada. I want to apply for my parents Immigration as dependents, who are based in India.
1. Can I immediately apply for their immigration? Or is there any waiting period before I am eligible for applying.
2. Any time estimate on how long will it take for them to actually land here after submitting application?
3. As dependents, will they also get the same medical benefits that any permanent resident gets?

1. You have to show that you have lived and worked in canada for 1 year before applying. (i.e. tax return is needed).
2. Not sure. At least more than 2 years.
3. Yes.
Also make sure that you have enough income to support the additional family members. There is a chart which shows how much is needed for you to qualify.

Its much more than two years these days. Approx. 5 years.

I have heard that as long as one is able to show the income for last year (doesn't matter whether its in US or canada) there is no stipulation on waiting period.

Are you sure about the health insurance? I had heard that if u sponsor your parents you have to get private health insurance for at least 10 years after as they are being sponsored. Well this is interesting information.

I felt sponsored member, parents, spouse, sibling, children come as PR of Canada and they enjoy similar privilege as any PR of Canada. Where does question of taking pvt. insurance arise. It must be for other treatments not covered in OHIP. Please post your findings for others to know.
