Hello
I am in a problem. I need urgent advice . I have already shipped my goods, but due to problems here I have to postpone my landing. Now my goods will arrive before I land. Is there a problem here? If there is what should I do.?
Please help
Regards
Jay
Hi Jayaram,
If you are shipping from Sydney, Australia, your best move would be to contact your shippers and have them NOT ship the goods to Canada, but instead store locally in Australia. There would be additional warehouse expenses they would charge you.
If they have already shipped (and depending upon mode of shipment) you may still be able to land in Canada before your goods arrive and can get them released from Customs.
In the event that your goods land up and you are not available to take delivery, there would be demurrage charges and in certain events the goods may be auctioned/ sold off. Demurrage charges are usually very high, so the best bet is to have them stored locally and pay warehouse expenses.
This is my understanding of international shipments - in either case you need to contact your movers right away and ask them to hold/delay your shipment if possible.
Good luck to you and please post your actual experience.
I found out at this site

Item 34 under Shipping Goods to Canada
34. Settlers' effects arriving by commercial highway carrier may go forward in bond to an inland destination for clearance. If the commercial carrier is not covered by a general authorization, the carrier must obtain a single trip authorization. Refer to Memorandum D3-1-1, Regulations Respecting the Importation, Transportation and Exportation of Good
s.
What does this mean? As my goods will be shipped to Vancouver and then by suface transport to Toronto by my mover. Does no 34 apply for me. If it goes to bonded inland destination, does anybody knows what charges will apply?
Appriciate any help
Thanks
Jay
