you know what happened......... I am an ignorant fooool .. ....... that's what I would call myself because even after having spent almost a year in Canada......... I didnt know that cable given by landlords is the illegal thing. Rogers people called offering some free channels for a couple of months ............. and I told them that I was always having those channels as a "package of our basement rent". They caught me. Well anyway they told me to keep it a secret and promised that my name would never come up. But I felt it to be a cheating with my landlord........... So I went and told him.
Result................ No Raid from Rogers since 10 days.
................My landlord taking away the cable from me forever ( he said
................warning me that he would put fine (if any) on me
.....................Me poor sitting without cable.
Hey but my qestion is........ now that I have to pay 50 bucks for cable myself...... should I ask for lessening my rent............. because he promised to give cable, legal or illegal.
But I really have good relations with the lady (hey by the way I am a girl too)..... though her husband is 'not very polite'..........
What shoud I do????
Anyway it is 1 bedroom basement in Markham......with $650 everything, cable too, included.
What should I do? Coz after all its my fault!!!!
Please suggest.
I don't understand why it is illegal. First, renting a basement apartment itself could be an illegal thing, but when it comes to rogers, why it is illegal?
As a house ower I am paying $5 extra to Rogers for each addtional connection. I have total three connection and one goes to basement. (And they know it is going to basement, they installed it) When I am paying for it how it can be illegal?
May be they have a stand that your landlord is sharing the connection with other family.
Clarify these things with your landlord. He might have connected it ot basement himself.

BTW,
Rogers is not a "Restaurant" name so I am moving this thread to Public Services.

Ya this should have been in Public Services
GG,
It is not ILLEGAL , b'cause there is no law enacted by govt. Only it is against the Policies of Rogers. The most they can do is to cancel your cable and/or take you to civil court which they are unlikely to do.
You are very honest if you are paying extra $5 for each additional connection to Rogers. Majority of people, I come across, don't do that. And I also don't see any reason why Rogers should charge extra for additional outlets within a house for a single family usage.
Aflatoon,
The landlord is only scaring you by "warning me that he would put fine (if any) on me". They have no authority to do that. Most they can do is to not renew your lease or give you a xx-day notice (specified in lease, if there is any lease in place) to move out.

I am not sure what the landlord is troubled about? In case he is taking your rent in cash, then I can make further assumptions on his stance - and leave it to you to conjecture what he has been doing with his taxes.... However, these things have no limits. So, suggest, be objective and focusseed on your primary objectives.
I want to extend my Basic Rogers Cable to my tenant in the basement. Well perhaps I might even stay myself in the basement sooner or later due to family extension.
Inview of the above how should I go ahead ?
Do I need any assistance from ROGERS ?
I would be grateful for practical advise.
And yeah Happy INDIA DAY to all !
Best regards,
