I became a PR in April 2004 and I landed in April 2004.

My question is the 183 day rule which is required to keep PR status will that be counted from April 2004 - April 2005 or will be it be based on Jan 2004 - Jan 2005 ?

Is there any 183 day rule for PR??? I have never heard about it. Have such rules for taxation but PR (immigration) - I doubt.

It is not there anymore . Now you have to maintain 2 years out of 5 years of verifiable residency to maintain your PR in canada.

Hi,

I am applying for PR from Los Angeles. Please suggest to me as I have two landing options:

Since I joined this company in end of 2002 I haven't had the chance to go to India and be with my parents. Assuming I get my PR May-June of 2005, can I land in vancouver, stay my cousin till I get my PR card, health card, bank accounts set up etc and then fly to India, stay there 4-5 months and then come back? Can I do that?

Or do you think I should first go to India and then land in Canada? (PS: I do not want to leave US until I get my PR visa from Canada because my first three years' visa will be expiring in Apr 05 and I don't want to get into hassles of having problems entering again)

Please folks I need your suggestions. What would you do if you were in my situation.

Once you get your Cdn PR, you can decide based on your circumstances [and how much you miss your family].

There is no specific route to get into Canada.
