Maintaining PR status - Minimum requirement ?

Dear Patrons,

A friend of mine who came to Canada on PR basis in April 2004 wants to return back to India.

He has stayed in Canada for 3 months. Supposingly he goes back to India now, how should he maintain his PR status ?

Can any body suggest the time frame when he needs to come back and for how long ? I would be grateful.

Please forgive me if this is a repeat query as I was not able to locate a similar one in the charcha column.

To maintain PR status in Canada he has to have lived in Canada for an aggregate of two years within the 5-year period since landing in Canada.

If he doesn't make it, he MAY lose his PR status. It is not automatic. He will have the right to appeal.

Hi

My one of friend has stayed in Canada for 2.5 years and now he wants to return back to India.

1) Upto how many years he can stay inIndia without loosing his PR status.
2) If he comes back then will he have to start again to complete 3 eyars to apply for citizenship or he has to just complete remaining 6 months and apply for citizenship.
3) If he loses his PR status in worst case how long will it take to again get his residecy back?

Please guide..

Hi !

In case somebody has already been out of canada for say two years - can he return to canada now without the PR card.

I have a PR status and had been to canada in June 2002. I stayed there for some time and came back -

Can i return now - any likely problems -

Can somebody advice me please ..
