You both enter Canada and get work permits / validated.
If you leave Canada ... that is fine. She will not be out of status. She can continue to work till her permit expires.

I am not concerned about her status in US.
If I leave the canadian work force, can she continue to work in Canada on her open work permit which she got when I got my work permit under ICT (Intercompany transfer). Or when I leave canada, does she become out of status in Canada as well?
Really ? You want to work in US & you want Your wife to work in Canada with your baby, who is barely 6 months old ? Can't she just work in US or be a housewife till the baby grows up ? Her & your US status is fine. Baby might even be a US citizen, if he was born in US.
Who is going to take care of the baby while she goes to work in Canada & you are working in US ? Take care of your wife & baby first, be practical & then worry about all this Canadian work permit.

The only person confused is you. You and your wife just want to use this beautiful country called Canada for your residency status. Things are NOT pannig out for you as planned so you are getting frustrated.
You are not the first Indian US immigrant living close to the border to play this game. Detroit & Windsor border is famous for this. Trying to have best of both the worlds and trying to step on 2 stones. So is Seattle and Vancouver to a smaller extent.
Ungrateful and selfish people who use Canada for its lax immigration policy, PR status, Work Permit, Citizenship , Passport, Free universal healthcare , Student Visa, but then look down upon Canada and want to stay and work in US with No intention of contributing to Canada.

Wish you well sir booradleysmart. This is a public forum to discuss immigration related issues and I hope that the discussions remain polite. You have no business commenting on my family or what I do.

When people take education from public gov. institutions like IIT, which is funded and paid and highly subsidised by the poor taxpayers of India.
Then they go and work for foreign banks and foreign car companies in a foreign country like US, it is our business.
Feel free to return the money from the subsidised Indian education you got and it won't be our business. Maybe that IIT seat could have gone to someone, who is less selfish and more patriotic and would have actually done something for a poor and developing country like India.
Then from that foreign country US, they try to use Canada and its tax payers for their PR, Work permit, just like India was used for Free/subsidised education, then it is our business.
See, how its not ALL about you and your family and your selfish motives and all about US of A ? Indians and Canadians are not for that and for us to be used.
Go to a private college in India ( not IIT ), then contribute to Canadian economy and then feel free to do whatever you want, otherwise you or your family have no business using either Mother India or Winter Wonderland Canada. Stay in US.
I hop that was polite enough for you.

booradleysmart - I think you should direct your frustation towards millions of Canadians born and raised here, who went to universities in Canada (subsidized by Canadian Tax payers like me) and went on to work in the USA. or probably towards people like Justin Trudeau who would like to spend tax payers money to bring in 25000 Syrian refugees without proper security checks in to Canada while millions of Canadians are out of jobs and homeless
