I bought a prepaid visa travel card from Icici bank over 2 years ago, denominated in USD. In few months, it will reach the last date by which I must use the amount on it.

My question: can I encash the remaining amount at any of the Banks in GTA? I don't mind if I lose due CDN/USD exchange etc. Anybody with subject experience ?
Thank you.

you can withdraw cash from your prepaid travel card at any ATM machine with as small as $2 fee

Of course you can walk in ICICI bank & cash it out too OR just use the ICICI bank ATM outside the bank to pull cash out. The daily limit of ATM cash out must be kept in mind....

If you have a 2 year old USD denominated prepaid card, that means right now you will be benefited to convert it to CAD....Right now the rate is $1USD=$1.27CAD, but they might take 3 % of the conversion as a fee so you might end up getting $1.24CAD for each $1USD....

Do keep us posted on what you did & how you did, for us & others in future to know...

Hi ,

Did you take the card from ICICI , India or Canada ..When the card is returned to the originating Branch they credit back the balance to your account in the originating currency based on current exchange rate.

I found that TD had a daily ATM limit of CAD 1000/- whereas RBC had CAD 500/- , though both charged same transaction fee... So it makes sense to withdraw from a Bank's ATM which allows more daily withdrawal limit.

I bought the travel card in India.
If I went to the bank(Icici Canada) would I be able to withdraw the entire remaining amount minus transaction fee or ATM withdrawal is better?

Thank you.

I think you should be able to withdraw all your fund by walking into a ICICI bank Canada.....

my ICICI bank chequing account has only $300 daily ATM cash limit....

I may be wrong but ICICI Canada is not a subsidary of ICICI India and a separate Banking entity.

As such since the card was not issued by them , their ATM would be like any other Bank's ATM charging you per transaction and within their daily limit.

If however you were to return the card back to the Indian Branch who issued it , they would credit your account with INR.

If that's not what you want try the following:

a. Touch base with ICICI Canada and check if they can help you in withdrawing the balance without charges .

b. If not withdraw from all the 5 Banks ATMs and check which has the maximum transaction limit.

c. Withdraw from that Bank till you get down to the last 100's after which use the card as a debit card for the balance .... most likely a single transaction for the remaining balance at a grocery store or something..... Perhaps you can use it as a depositing card also at a Bank Teller Counter.
