Have any PIO and OCI holders applied for a PAN card. What is the best way to apply and obtain when living here.
(note - this is needed by the bank with which i have acct in india. I opened the acct well before PAN was a requirement but they are now insisting on updating my profile with the PAN number )

PAN card is not mandatory to be updated with the bank. It is only required if you have to file taxes in India. If you have earned any interest from your bank deposits then bank will deduct tax (TDS) and you can only get TDS certificate from the bank if you supply PAN card to the bank. If your tax deducted is not significant and you don't bother to claim it back then there is no need to provide PAN card to the bank.
Ok.. the tax deducted is not significant. so i will not apply for now
