we live in a semi detached house in misissauga. we have annoying neighbours. the problems is that they come to and threaten my son who plays basket ball in our drive way usually in the evening for an hour or so. when we try to talk to him, he starts shouting, swearing and says that our son cant play. this is definately not tolerable. we are so tensed that if we are work and if he does something to my son( might attack with some hockey stick or something), is there any suggestion?

You have only two options. Either you take legal action (ask for police help) or just stop to play basket ball in a drive way. It entirely depends on you which one you want to pick. If I would have been in place of you, I would have ask for police help so that I can get a clear picture about the law.

Set up a video camara covering your property and use it as evidence. It will also act as deterrent as well as good for your safety.

Tell him to screw off and play every evening with your son. If you try to be nice nice, he will give you all the shit in the world. He will not attack your son with a stick. If he does he going to jail for assault.

Donot bet on it. This is canada man where they allow all nationalities in.

I would say prevention is better than cure.

Either a. resolve with your neighbour b. call the police & also install the camera c. ask your son to play in the park.

Peace

Better check on the rule book, whether your son can play BB on driveway in attached property. I am sure yes he can in your part but seems like ball is jumping on to other side plus heavy thump of the ball may be annoying the neighbor. Have you asked which part is bothering him ?

you may try this - ask your son not to play for few days. this will calm your neighbor down. Then one of the day meet neighbor (do not enter their house , meet him while he is outside washing his car or so) and ask his annoyance point. You never know a dialog or 2 will resolve the issue. lot depends how you initiate the dialog, In case he stays aggressive, leave him alone and follow the rule book.

Also pls remember you also have some responsibility towards neighborhood and keeping a tensed setup will stress you and family unnecessarily.

Playing basketball on driveway means that the ball can hit your neighbours property like glass, car and even them also etc. What for play grounds are ? The sound of ball hitting the ground can be annoying and as you said that it is not one day affair and kid is playing everyday.
As far as threatening is concerned you can report the matter to police.
