I am an Indian national on Canada PR visa.Need to know that my 5 years daughters passport is expiring in November 2012 . Can she travel to India from Canada in the month of July and return back in September with us?

She is an Indian national.

Is it mandatory that passport needs to be 6 month valid on the date of travel?

It is better to renew it but I do not know how long Indian passport renewal takes from Canada. India requires 6 months' passport validity on date of travel.

I know a person, who travelled to India within a month of his passport expiry, & he got it renewed there (in India) under tatkal (urgent). & he travelled back.
He was in fact a refugee, his passport wasn't getting renewed here in Canada. Not to mention the fees is lot less if renewal is done in India.

We can renew the passport here, it takes max of 2 to 3 weeks to renew.

Even i was in the same position, where my passport was expiring and had to renew it before it expires. Indian Consulate will not renew the passport before 6months of expiry date.

I walked-in to Indian Consulate explained the situation to VISA Officer. they signed on my application form and asked me to submit at VFS India.
I got the passport in 2 weeks.
