You are unwilling to even consider a third scenario. All the nontippers get replaced by people willing to pay the price including gratuity and they make more profit than before. All these nontippers just wish that the restaurant would die because they got "thrown out."

I think you are concoting more than what s written ..Some time back you concoted that I stopped visiting GL because of gratuity despite my not having said any such thing ...

Again nowhere have I said that this yours 3rd scenario will not happen ...Did I say or mean anywhere that I am unwilling to consider that ??

Infact if the wages or incentives are upped by the employer , it shall result in the following ..

a. The business will absorb the cost not passing it on to the customer .
b. The business passed it on to the customer in which case depending on the competion and the quality , either it may die down OR continue running same or more successful than before .

Advantages of such an approach are that for one everything is exhibited , declared and nothing is hidden .... and also it will make the competition more intnese as price is a major factor ... which will again benefit the customer .

The servers would also stand to benefit as then they would not be left at customer's discretion ....

This is nothing new - an approach already followed in other jobs like sales .

But the bottom line is that very few businesses would take this approach ..Why ??

Because they want to earn from both tippers and non tippers unless they have limited seating capacity ..... It does not make sense not to serve non tippers as they also bring business and profit anyways ...

Plus increasing the menu prices can have a deterimintal effect on the business and not many would be willing to take the risk ...

And yes Raj C , there s a 4th option as well :

Waiters who are not contend with their jobs can find better ones if people do not tip and the employer does not increase wages ..Heck - you get paid for what you are worth ....

All said and done ... tipping is highly over rated .....

@ Fido,
Here you asked our suggestions and view, we did provide now. but you are still trying to prove your point. As I said earlier that it all depends on a person to to give or not, it is personal choice..

- You mentioned that " No body tips me so why should I " --- I know thats why you are not tipping..thats your choice..

Waiters are get paid less than minimum wage - $8.90 or less , because even Govt knows that they get extra tip..FYI

So who forced them to accept less wages .. They themselves .. Most of these waiters would not take minimum wages jobs as they know that with tips , they will earn much more .... they are the ones being calculative .

And like I mentioned perhaps not tipping them can make them look for better opportunities....
