I am a Canadian citizen with a job offer from India. Which will be better to get, a work visa or PIO/ OCI. The employment is for 2 years and then after I will return back to Canada.
Plz advice.

You have to go with whatever you can get with the timelines that you have
OCI- The best with no hassles but might take 3-4 months for the indian embassy in Canada to deliver after the surrender certificate. You do not need to complete any more formalities for the job offer after that.
PIO- The next best with no hassles but might take 1-2 months for the indian embassy in Canada to deliver after the surrender certificate. You do not need to complete any more formalities for the job offer after that.
The disadvantage with the PIO is that you have to register with the foreign ministry (you have to go in person to the metros to register ) after 6 months.
Work Visa- Might be the fastest to get but there might be formalities such as foreign ministry approved job offer which might take time. Any foreigner can be employed in India only if the job offer pays at least Rupees 1 lakh a month. So if your salary is not that much, then your work visa might get rejected. There seems to be no such restriction in the case of OCI.
I have an OCI and I have no hassles working here. People treat me as an Indian and they have given me a ration card, PAN Card, Govt. gas connection, DL, etc..

Just a thought, what would it take for one (in your background ie., Indian ==> Canadian + OCI) to get the Indian citizenship back.
I'm hearing different things such as you got to live in India for 5 years before applying, some say if you were an Indian citizen before, you just need to apply after a year and some say you could apply anytime as you were an Indian born in India before becoming Canadian.
Its good to have some clear understanding about this.

As per section 5(1)a & 5(1)c of the Indian Citizenship Act. PIO card holders can acquire Indian Citizenship after they have resided in India for a minimum of 7 years before making the application for grant of Indian citizenship.
OCI Holders
Those who have OCI status may be granted Indian Citizenship after 5 years from date of registration provided they stay in India for one year before submitting the application for Indian citizenship

Thanks for commenting. But the case is different when it comes to a person who was born and lived in India and their parents are still living in India. If I am correct, the 5 year limit doesn't apply. Just living there for a year would suffice.

Wow first u chase a Overseas citizenship and then u are in a hurry to give it up to get back indian citizenship.
