Does it affect your application, if you ask for the status of your application? I have applied for my wife PR and its almost 9 months in 2nd stage. on the website it says it will take upto 21 months. Does this apply for every one or only for those who apply now?

U can contact CIC call center to check status.

If ur application has taken more time than their normal timelines u can ask ur local MP to write a letter to cic check why it is taking so long. Since ur application has only been in process for 9 months out of the 21 months listed timeline u should wait, because unnecessary queries from MP's could result in more scrutiny on the application which means more delays
