Hello,
I put in an application to sponsor my parents in August 2007 and received an acknowledgement of the application soon after. I tried to check the status on line right now and read that they are currently processing applications received upto May 9, 2007. So I anticipate that my application will start being processed in the next few months. My question is , what exactly happens by way of process after they open my file and and how long does that process take?
If this question has been answered before I would appreciate a link to the same.

After they "open" your file, they will assess your eligibility to sponsor your parents and will either approve/reject your sponsorship application. If it is approved, your parents will have to fill a separate set of forms and send in the supporting documentation to the Canadian HC in New Delhi.

If you applied in Aug 2007, at the current processing time of 32 months, you should know around April, if your sponsorship was approved.

After the file is transferred to New Delhi, it will take them another 12-18 months to get the landing papers. So, you are looking at the end of 2011 at this pace.

Wow! Never expected it to take so long after the file was opened.

I just check today In–Canada Application Processing Times (last updated February 15, 2010)

Parents and Grandparents May 22, 2007 33 months
It went upto 33 months... before 15 days it was 32 months,,,,

hope this stays at 33months..
