I am mulling to buy a car in India. Here are the concerns:

a. I have always driven an automatic, never a stick shift. Are there any automatic in India? Couple of years back I was told that there are automatic but are few and expensive. Not sure how things are now.

b. How difficult to learn a stick shift? I can go to a local driving school to learn stick shift, if I cant buy an automatic.

c. I am going for a used one only, about 3-6 yrs olds.

d. There are number of brands. Tata, Toyota, Ford, Maruthi, etc.with number of models. Again not sure which model is good for a used car. Does not matter petrol or diesel.

e. Any links for used cars?

Any suggestions/advice welcome.

I checked with Maruti show room when i visted India last april, they have automatic transmission cars, but i am not sure whether you can get used ones.

If its first time you driving in India, then I suggest you go for a old car, be comfortable with "Indian Driving" and then may be after 6 months, you can go for a new car. After all nobody like scratches and dents on their new cars.

Ha...no matter how expert you become, you cannot escape from your car getting scratches and dents.
Good luck!

Well, I can afford a driver, but need to learn for emergency purposes when he's not there.
