IT used to be a field that i worked in for a few years however since the past 4 years i have been working in HR (management oriented field). I am planning to return to IT by upgrading my education and find the QA testing field quite interesting.

there are a whole lot of smaller institutes offering QA training and gurantee jobs upon completion. I am wondering if any one has experience who can confirm if what these institutes claim is correct. They confirm that they will train all students on most aspects of QA testing and will get them a job and reference. IT all sounds too good to be true and i wonder how correct it is.

Intent is not to cheat employers but if this is a quick track to get back on IT bandwagon then be it. What courses would one recommend for getting myself good with the QA testing skills. All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I would say do not rely on their job guarantee. They can arrange for interview, may be even reference but it is YOU who will give the interview. Even if quality of their teaching is very good, you will will have to do your homework to get required skills to pass the interview and then probation.

Regarding quality of training, ask them names and contact numbers of previous students who got placed or who had the training and if you can contact them. Many will come up with excuses at that point.

Do not trust on institute promises ... more or like they are same when it comes to training.

QA is very easy to learn, mostly they teach manual process (SDLC, test case, and test plan), if you are good on reading then you can learn that by yourself.
Beside that they will teach you Automation, most of them teach QC /QTP
Instead institute try to find some private consultant, who can teach you over the week end – will be cheap and since its one to one you will learn quicker.. all u need to know is the process and tools..

Don’t pay to much , talk to couple of them , there are so many….

If you have bit of programming knowledge and u like doing programming then emphasize on AUTOMATION, ( VB , SQL scripting) , there is more money on Automation than manual.

Thank You Peafowl and rajcanada, this is valuable advise, I am looking into a couple and will certainly be interested in automation, Any recommendations on what schools to use ? As i am seriously willing to take this on, I would rather get started to learn with a pro and then take it from there on my own. Any and all recommendations are welcome, possible from someone who has taken a course and can recommend a school where he took the course and had a great experience will be ideal.

THank You

I agree with the above adivse, even myself i am getting trained in automation where you will have more chances in gettng a job.
I would suggest some training sites for basic knowledge in VB Script, QTP, Loadrunner
and take taining from good institute for Advanced course. I would suggest this becoz you need to learn the real time tips and advanced topics in automation where lot of institues dont teach them
So checkout an institute where the instructor has not only knowledge but has worked in automation in real time.
just my 2 cents and happy training

Disadvantage of being in GTA.

Cut throat competition. False promise. You ask for Omlet n r served with Half Fry. You better watch out.

Anyways, as pointed out - rely on your skills more than instructor. There is one more in Brampton that I know - Tekstrom http://www.tekstrom.com/
Talk to them n check out urself. I know someone went there to enquire but havent started anything yet.

All the Best
