I have applied for my PR renewal (expiring in April), in the mean time i may have to visit US for a couple of time. Should i apply for travel document (returning resident) prior to my departure?

Please advice.

Praveen Kalra's help was useful, submitted the proof of travel document and i received the renewed PR card in just 4 weeks.
