Hi!
If your furnace is merely 3 yrs old and you change the filter regularly , I do not see any reason to get it checked . Just ensure that there is no water leak from anywhere inside out . Even if you see that furnace area is damp , have it checked by a professional .
Let me know if you have any specific questions .

I have not changed filters, 6 months before we did the maintenance for AC and some filters were changed by DirectEnergy people but later I have terminated their home protection contract. So looking for someone to have a look.

Typically the filter should be changed every 3-4 months. It's very easy to do that. Look for the big duct going back into the side of the furnace. There will be a filter by the side of the furnace. Just pull the old one out and slide the new one in place. Typical size is 16" x 25" or 16" x 20. They are around 1" thick.

Any hardware store will carry them. Price range from $1 to $20. Ask for the 3M ones, they ae around $10 and up.

If the last filter change was 6 months ago, you should replace the filter immediately. By not doing so, you are reducing the effectiveness of the furnace, and ausing possible damage to the furnace.
