hi... just wanted to know.. if we canget calling card from square one......
and 2ndly this term ( Credit History ) is eating me like anything.......
What exactly it is........ ( i know.... back there i do buy using plastic money and pay it on time ).... and how it is so much in demand here.......
please suggest

Why not? Just be wary of the cheating - dont buy high value cards - just the $2.00 or max $5.00 cards. Many cards are 1 time use only - so you need to use it in 1 call- so read the fine print.

Plastic is credit - for anyone to provide you with this service they need to know how reliable you are with their money and repayment. Since you are new, no one knows your 'history' of spending and paying back. To start 'building history', you will need to subscribe to a 'secured' credit card from your current bank and over a period of 9 months to 1 year of regular use, you will have 'some' history and you can apply to 1-2 banks for 'unsecured' cards. Initially your credit limits will be lower and over a period of 'good credit behaviour' your limit may be eligible for increase.
Search the charcha for more advice and issues with Credit Cards.
Coming from the east, all this is very usual to what you have been used to - so have patience and learn the system here.

first and foremost, you can use gupshup calling card/similar names for $2.50 which allows you to talk to india say bombay for 250 minutes, bangalore 150 minutes,madras and goa 180 minutes, delhi 210 mts etc etc. but be careful to use card calling everybody at one go in 15 days to one month because after you scratch and use it first time, everyday 20-25 mts are lost. The card cannot be used after 4-5 days or it is invalid after 4-5 days. (advise - call everybody on say sunday every week or alternate week).
secondly do not call Monday-friday during 7am to 7 pm since you will be charged on mobile. call after 7 pm during weekdays and during weekends.
To build credit history, ask your bank to give you credit card and make every purchase thro credit card even for $ 5 purchase use creidt card. If you don't pay on time, your credit history becomes bad, so instruct your bank to deduct directly from your check in account your credit card dues on due date.

If i call from my landline... then also it will cost me more from Mon - Fri.... or not......
Mobile i use for incoming only and call from mobile from 7 pm to 8 am.. it is free...i got it coz in initial week.. i wanted to be connected......

there is $50 unlimited landline and unlimted high speed internet plan which gives 24 hours incoming and outgoing call free.
for mobile it 7 am to 7 pm free and weekends free. Please check during this period as to whether you are paying airtime charges.
thirdly if you are receiving premium text/sms like who is british primeminister/who is is president, such sms, immdly intimate to your cell company, because somebody is misusing your cell no. to play dell laptop games etc and you will charged highly. we got such premium text bill $ 110 last month and I refused to pay but ultimately fido reduced my charges by 35% but had to pay rest 65% for which I was not responsible.
I think such things are called identity theft. please take out caller id,call forwarding,conference and voice msg services because they are charged. for eg caller id is $10 per month. voice msg is $6.99 per month.Take out all these features since nothing is free, they will charge you for everything.
