Is it a normal practice here to indicate housing allowance seperately?
( I ask this question b'cos in Gulf, the employers normally indicate base salary + Housing allowance or house + Transportation allowance or company car seperately )

The concept of "housing allowance" is not common here.
In fact, it must be extremely rare and only applicable in special circumstances.
Salaries are quoted almost always as gross, base salary.
If there are any other financial payments, such as special bonuses or whatever, they are clearly indicated separately.

"Housing allowance" is provided in case of temporary relocation to another city/town.
In those cases, company will either provide corporate apartment or a "housing allowance".

Transportation allowance similarly is not common.

Company car is provided only under a few cicumstances, such as executive level position OR extensive driving required for job on a daily basis such as all day visits to client sites or travel throughout the city visiting clients.

Other than these, employees are expected to pay for their own transportation via car, public transit, car pool or whatever.
For sales or consulting positions, mileage is usually re-imbursed at a flat rate that covers cost of gas and wear/tear of the car.

2) Other benifits:
a) Medical facility for self and family.( I hope this will cover for things which are not covered by OHIP like cost of medicines, dental)

Correct, this is usually a part of benefits.
This is usually known as a health plan.

b)RRSP ( Is it compulsary or at the discretion of company? )

You mean a company RRSP match.
That is at the discretion of the company.
If they provide a match, it will be mentioned separately in the contract.
It is separate from the gross salary and separate from the benefits.
If they have just regular group RRSP, then it's up to you whether you want to sign up or do it on your own.

c) Car ( If work involves site visits )

See above - only in case of executive level position or for extensive in-town driving on a daily basis.
Quote:
d) Paid vocation ( How many days earned leave per year? Is there medical leave? )
Entirely depends on the company and your negotiation.
2 weeks is common, though after probationary period.
Some medical leave is also provided usually.
Quote:
e) Bonus ( Is it applicable in this country? if is applicable, should it be written in Contract?)
Yes, it will be in the contract for sure.

3) My last question :
Is Employment contract prepared and signed by both parties? If so, how it will be written regarding resignation or termination?

Yes, usually the employer will provide you with the contract which you will be required to read and sign.
Someone from the company will also sign, such as HR manager or director or VP.
You have the right to have it reviewed by a lawyer, if you choose, esp. if it's a sensitive position such as executive level where there are lots of clauses and gotchas.
Notice period is also specified in the contract as well as termination clauses.
If there is any severance clause that should also be clearly laid out in the contract.
In general, the higher your position offered the more complex the contract will be.
Also, if the industry is a competition-sensitive industry, the more complex the contract will be, such as non-compete clauses.

Good luck !

Hi NM,
Your Post was indeed very helpful for me...I am a civil engineer...working in project control(Planning and scheduling) for an american company in abu dhabi...I am preparing for my PMP exams and hope to clear it by next 3,4 months...I would appreciate if you can provide some details about the job scenario for people like us.I have an experiance of around 10 yrs in civil infrastructure projects.
How is the salary structure and the job availability for civil infrastructure projects. Is it very difficult to pass the PE license exam..is it really required?
Please provide some insight.
Peace..

Hello Guys,

Today my second interview ( Face - to - face ) is finshed with the employer.

Today again i met the same guy who interviewed me over phone.

He first explained his company business in detail and then asked me again few management questions which i answered to his satisfaction. He also said i meet job descriptions and further elborated that the job i need to make visits also.

Finally he asked " Did we discuss last time about salary? "

I said i am focussing on the position and looking for career oriented job and would accept salary as per industry standard.

He said to me the company's expansion programs in the future.

I could guess that he is satisfied with me but he said he need to speak with other candidates and also he is busy these days and would need three weeks time to finalise.

Actually i was expecting that today i will have their decision, ( being second interview ) but it was not the case. He said he needs another 3 weeks time.

Is it normal here to ask for third time to come for salary negotiation? Only HR deals with salary negotiation?

I could guess that he had to "see" other candidates also b4 making final decision.

I am bit confused.

My guess is along the same lines - they are shopping around.
That's why he's asking for your salary requirements.
It's a little unusual to have 2 interviews and not discuss salary.
It's better for both parties to establish some sort of range just so that you both are not wasting time in case your expectations are far apart.

Welcome to Canada!!!!
Canada is not like the Gulf /India where by when you go for an interview and the employer talks very nicely and positively that it means that you are selected for the job. It is not like that. The Canadian employer talks to everyone in a very normal / joyful positive way as they are supposed to treat everyone equal but behind the scenes they will choose the best candidate for the job.
Wishing you all the best

Peace by TK
