All the Information You guys can give through your Experiences wil be fine - I have been granted an Immigrant Visa to Travel to Canada on 03rd Feb 2009 which they called me & was picked im March 09 with condition to travel before the Expiry of the Medical Exam Report by 28April 2009.
So I have to Quickly pack up & come to Canada, please advise on the Formalities involved at Immigration - What kind of Funds are these guys looking from me?
Where can I find modest Accommodation in Toronto Area??
I am an Architect & project Manager by profession - both worst hit in Canada..
Can I show proof of Funds as Deposits here in Kenya & Assets in India - Are they Acceptable?
How long will I have to stay initailly to get the rights - Whats the Shortest Period?

Yeah, poor tamil also was laid off. 
so you might want to consider before you throw up every thing and join the ranks of the unemployed here in canada.

You should know based on the number of dependants you have. It should also be mentioned in your IMM form.
Also search other forums on CD for other threads on amount and how to show/bring that amount.

When you get the visa, you already got the right. The only thing you need after you land is the PR card to enable you to travel freely in future. Again there are already a few threads with suggestions for people who just complete thier landing and go back without applying for PR and others who have tried different routes to get the PR. Please spend sometime on reading through the old posts and you might find all the answers you need.
Since the current job situation is not so great, it will be advicable to stick to your current job, if possible. You can complete your landing formalities and return back to your job within a week without applying for PR card. If you wish to stay back and apply for the PR card, SIN card etc...it will take approximately 4-6 weeks depending upon your case.

I would take a leave & travel apply for PR / SIN & return to resume my job maybe those can be mailed to me later , I hope that kind of an Arrangement is fine Any Comments?

Mayank, you will need a local addess (in Canada) to recieve the PR / SIN. Check this ..... should be useful for you

Hi mayank,
U plan of returning to ur current job is good.
This down cycle will take atleast 2 years to recover some of the lost jobs..
Ur pr allows u to be away for 3 years.
i would suggest u take this time to travel the US and canada
After 2 year look at the economy and decide if this is the place for u.
