I recently moved to Calgary and I am now looking for a house to purchase. I work near downtown area and not sure if NW or SW area is good and hope someone will help me.

1. Good schools (Senior high and middle school)
2. C-train or atleast drive to the nearest c-train.
3. Less traffic.

I will say SW

Also it depends on Child's age. If you want regular program
any part of city is okay

But if you want special program like TLC, FFCA, Science etc,
I think its better to stay in SW like Somerset, Evergreen etc

Its accessible form bus to C-train station also

Also if you are buying there are really some good offers from builders
in those parts

But its your decision to buy in this recession time. Price may further come down possibly

Also this part of city has more South Asians than any part of city
Of course NE has, but its better not to stay in that part

very well connected with somerset , malls arround .

3. Less traffic.

comparing NE and NW traffic is much organised in SW......

what else.... less crime rate

Though every one says property prices have come down in Calgary, I see a decent 2000sqft house in Evergreen cost around $450K. Is it realistic? I am not sure what I am comparing to. How was it 2 years back? Any comments about Aspenhills and surrounding areas?

I have 10 year and 14 old kids. My main criteria is schools, day care centre, commuting etc in this order. And of course crime rate being the top of list.

Don't worry about crime. calagry has a decent crime rate. Avoid Downtown and NE (Desi area).

I know Indian families staying in NW.

I will be moving from USA to Calgary with my family in March . I am looking for a good apartment communities with presence of Indians. can anyone suggest few of it? My Incline is towards NW of Calgary. I have 2 school going kids (12 yrs and 9 yrs) so good schools with special programes are my main concerns. If shopping areas and transport facalities are near to that area,it will be gr8!
