Hi,
If anyone has had their citizenship test recently, or can recount their citizenship test, do we need to take our passport to the test? I understand that the cic.gc.ca website does mention it, but is this mandatory?
If it is, what do the authorities look for in the passport?
The concern is that I have recently applied for citizenship and I intend to leave for several months, during which time I intend to give a proxy address (perfectly valid address). Of course, I will update this address through the cic website notification, but then I will not be physically present at that address for several months. So do the officers take account of/objection to my absence after my application for citizenship? Please note that I have completely fulfilled 1095 days criterion and I have never travelled outside of Canada in these 1095 days.
It is only now due to employment prospects etc. that I am having to make this decision to venture out of here. I really dont think it will be possible for me to hang around till I complete the oath ceremony etc. I intend to return for these purposes as and when required. Given that the wait from the time the application is filed, up until citizenship is granted is highly variable, and my resources (time, finances, patience etc.) are limited, I would like to know from you all on this.
Thanks in advance,
VD
yes passport is mandatory...they check the validity of your application that you actually have completed the required time before you filed for citizenship....absence after application doesn't matter

They will check your passport.

Obviously to write the test, you will have to come back into Canada once you receive the test notification.
At that point, simply bring your passport along.
I don't see the problem.
I really do not see a problem with any of that...still just call cic call centre and ask this general ques if it impacts not having states address...give reason that don't have fixed address yet over there, first going to friend/relative & then would move...but the address on file is relative so mail will be forwarded for sure whereever you are.
As per my experience...when I went for test they just validated the dates on the application for each entry....asked me how many times out of country after that, saw that date but that's it ...no more interrogation as to why? where?
they do their verifications on file when application is sent....like they sent me letter as they wanted more documents proving my entries ?& then after they find all satisfactory, then only you get test letter...but they want to see original stamps in passport at test centre as ones you send them with apllication is photocopies of passport pages.
I really doubt that you would get into that kind of interrogation. So many people work in states & come back just to give test.
Again just call cic call centre for peace of mind.

I just realised....I am just assuming you are going to states, although you never said anything about it.
Anyhow, I know someone, who went to India like this...her son was studying here...so was using his mailing address....came back for test & stayed till oath...then went back again.

My opinion: Do not call CIC and give them the information that is not required. They do not correspond with any address outside of Canada and the relative/friend's address (Cdn) is enough. Yes, they could ask the questions about the passport stamps, but does not necessarily mean that they WILL ask. It is a possibility. You should not worry though, because your move is after your completion of 1095 days.
Good luck!
