Just a caution:

You should know what you want to get down. Some time even recommendations can screw you.

My suggestion is to enter into an arrangement whereby you get to select the material, design and quality.
The contractor/company will charge only T&M.
Don't go for fixed fee contract unless you know /exactly/ what you want done in the basement and where and how you want it done.

If you go for a fixed fee contract, make sure it includes in writing what material will be installed, ideally brand name and quality.
For example,
- Insulation R13 Q brand
- Metal studs 1.2 inches
- Lights 13W Phillips energy efficient, etc.

Also, the amount and frequency of payment.
Such as, duration 5 weeks. $2000 advance payment and $2000 every Friday, etc.
Don't get shafted into paying 40% or 50% fee up-front.

If you can specify and define all the aspects of the work up-front, then a fixed price contract will work in your favour - you will save money and get the work done much faster.

If not, it is better to go with a T&M contract.

I could provide you the reference of the contractor I had used.
It's not a "company", but a contractor who works for himself.
He might bring a couple of guys with him, depending on how big the work is.

If you are interested, I'll pm you his contact.
Let me know.
