BEWARE of Cheating by Phone Company

Dear Friends

I had subscribed to long distance phone service from an online phone company.

For over two years, I have subscribed to their service believing their internet published rates.

The rate advertised on their web site for calling India (Delhi) $0.39 and the rate charged however, were not the same.

On calling there customer service, I was directed to customer service manager who refused to acknowledge the same and said that the published rate was for another plan.

No where on their website, or plans are any clarifications posted or disclaimers.

First they said that I had only renewed their service twice in two years (which is a lie as my mastercard shows proof of 8 or more renewals) so they couldnt give the published rate.

Nowhere in their website does it say that the published rate is at their discretion to be applied based on the number of annual renewals. When I pointed out this to her she backtracked and said:

2) That I was subscribed from the beginning in their initial plan. This was the only plan at that time. The published rates on their website was for another new plan. However there are no such published rates that I saw, nor a disclaimer regarding the published fares nor any clarifications.

Please all be aware of their service as they charge you 10 cents or more and refuse to provide any clarifications.

Please do pass this around,as we dont want to be ripped of our hard earned money.

Hi Fido,

I hadnt ever seen their billing (i.e how much do they finaly charge).

This month I re-charged for $100 because of the festive season, and realized that the credit hours were somehow not right after every call. I called them and was re-directed to the same manager- who was outright rude and said I could do whatever I wanted , she didnt care.

I posted the complaint in our charcha site and have also lodged a complaint with the American Arbiteration Association.

On the contrary I have found the service and prices of another Canadian long distance provider quite satisfactory ..... Call Select ... 3.9 cents / min India - both land and cell .

Day 02 of my complaint and follow up call.

No reply from the company. Manager refuses to take the call.

Unless you have any progress to report, there is no point in posting follow ups in Charcha.

A lot of these internet-based long-distance companies are hard to bring to book.
The BBBs do not have much influence over such fly by night shops.
They are not like a Canadian Tire or Zellers store that has customer service managers and complaint resolution systems.
Also, who checks with the BBB before signing up with these long-distance companies anyway - did you?
So what damage can you possibly do by complaining to these agencies?

I had a similar experience once many years ago with an internet based long distance company.
In my case, the loss was much smaller (a $20 calling card).
Every time I called, the person taking the call was probably the same lady.
Similar to your case, she was rude and flatly said she didn't care what I do.
I said I will file a complaint with the FCC and she said go ahead, by the time the FCC gets to the complaint they will be long gone.

I would really like for your complaint to succeed and bring some of these crooks to book.
Please post if/when you receive a positive action from the AAA.

I think that it is great that the original poster is taking this seriously. many a time I have said let it be...but the cents add up over time when you are frequently using the website. why waste precious money when you can use it for making more calls to your family.
