We are moving from U.S to Canada by Oct end as v got our PR. Our daughter will be 8-10 weeks old when we will land in canada and as per rules we wont be having any insurance for 3 months. We called some private insurance companies and they said they wont cover our daughter's shots and her regular doctor visits. Does any1 has an idea how much will it cost for her shots and is there any doctor who can give her shots and see her if needed?
Though Canada boasts of universal healthcare, actually it is a sort of two tier health care system. The one who has a health card does not pay for visits to the doctor / hospital (the hospital will bill the Govt. directly on your behalf) and those who donot have a health card / health coverage will have to pay for the services used.
So the above statement means that you can walk in to any doctor's office (you will need to get an appointment to see the peadiatrician if it is not a walk in clinic) and then pay for the shots / examination of your infant.
Cost of the shots will vary, but it will be like $50-$100 for the examination (by the specialist) and the cost of the medicine will be as per the actuals.
Hope this helps
Peace
