Hi All,

Sorry, if I am repeating this forum, but I am desperate .....I met with an accident and here is what I did ?

- Car skided because of ICE and it is a NO FAULT

- Minor damage to both the cars

- Reported to police on time

- My insurance is TD Insurance

- My car: Right hand passenger door handle is broken and there is a dent in that portion and on the frame.

My questions are:

- Is it advisable to repair both car by myself, without involving insurance company ? Other party has taken a estimate of $ 1270, yet I have to take estimate for my car ?

Please suggest if you feel something more appropriate ! Please reply asap !Thanks a ton ..

Arvind

I think that if the car skids due to ice, it is at fault accident. I would advise you to check with your insurance company. If it would have been multi-car accident (more than two) then it is considered "no fault"

You said that the accident was reported to police and I would assume that you guys noted your insurance co details on the report. The police will report the incident to your insurance co ( I believe it is procedural, check with CRC when they report it). Also, you must have reported on driver licence, it would have been noted on driving record and that goes directly to Insurance co.

I do not know, even if you settle outside now, still your record will show the accident.

Check with your insurance co, how it works. But they will say never settle outside. Also, the accident has to be reported within 24 hours to insurance co and in maximum 7 days.

Though it is at fault, sometime your insurance rate will not increase that drastically but your rating will come down. But your insurance co will not tell you now. It all depends for how many years you have driving.

Hi Desi#1

Thanks for the reply ! But I have not been given any ticket and I have informed my Insurance company (TD) . TD has given me a claim number and 'am waiting for their call how to proceed next. I am deciding to settle the claim with Insurance company for less hassles and run around.

Anymore information is appreciated !

Thanks

You are not given ticket because it is weather related incident. Only fault was that you are not driving safely. It all depends on your insurance co; how they will consider it.
