One way it might be faster but not easier is that it enabled you to apply from the Buffalo CHC post and not India (or your home country).
Even though Buffalo processing is slower than a few years ago, it is still faster compared to a lot of other posts, especially New Delhi.

If a GC holder from the U.S get permanent residence in Canada, he has to make a choice as both countries have mandatory physical presence requirements to maintain residency status. So, you should consider this step only if you are serious about moving to Canada (and letting your GC lapse)
