You know you just took the words out of my mouth. When we ate at GuruLakshmi we talked about this. We call it 'Kacharo' in Bombay language. My wife told my son how we freaked out on all that food over there.

My dream is to open such a joint one day. Hope I do that in Canada.

Hi CD's

Would recommend "Nilgiris" for veg South Indian food. It is located on Markham Road just off Mcnicoll.

This is run by a couple from South India and the taste reflects it.

Try the veg buffet on weekends, the quality is good and the price is reasonable too.

I also visited Guru Lakshmi and though it scores on quality and service .... on comparing the quantity , I find Udupi more value for money . ...... I had to spend more to have a filled stomach ..... so for regulars I would still prefer Udupi but occasionally visit GL ......

From the above posts, am I to deduce that Madras Udupi is cheaper than SR since we all love South Indian food !!

It sure provides more quantity for the same / lesser price . And service is also acceptable ....... I enjoy Udupi as it reminds me of the Kannadiga owned restaurants' taste in the Gulf ..... quality is also acceptable unlike Sarvana .

this place has 2 serious issues of concern

1. they are in serious violation of fire safety laws. they have squeezed in too many seats over the allowed limit. if there is a fire, you will be trapped because of the way tables and extra seating is setup.
2. they cannot force compulsory 10% extra service charge on the bill. it is your choice whether you want to pay tips or not. ask them to take it off the bill or tell them you will report it to city of mississauga. i always tip in cash to any server if i like their service, never add it to the bill. the restts always swallow it and give their wait staff peanuts.

i am going to report both above matters to concerned city deptts as these ares serious issues.
